Sports Facilities
Acknowledged as the golfing capital of Europe and possibly the world, the Costa del Sol boasts many more activities than you would imagine.
Skiing: the Sierra Nevada mountains overlooking Granada is a leading European ski centre and held the world ski championships just a few years ago. Yes, it is possible to snow ski in the morning and water ski in the afternoon!
Wind and Kite surfing: Tarifa on the Atlantic Coast has one of the world's leading centres for adventure sports.
Horse Racing: With the opening of a new race course just 3 km from the Aztec Country Club, horse racing has become a coastal pastime during Sundays and late on Saturday nights in the summer.
If the sea attracts you there are many sub aqua and sailing clubs all along the coast. Alternatively for those that prefer a more leisurely pace, lawn bowls is very popular.
For children, aqua parks, zoos, theme parks and nature centres are abound.
Go-karting, jeep safaris, ballooning, mountain biking – just think of a sport and its likely to be very near you at the Aztec Country Club.
Cities and Culture
For many people the name “Costa del Sol” just conjures up the image of miles of golden beaches. But the Costa also consists of a vast array of alternative of traditions and cultures.
Málaga is the third largest city in Spain, is the birthplace of Picasso and has recently celebrated the opening of one of the best Museums displaying his art.
Granada is the home of what is considered to be the eighth wonder of the world – the Alhambra Palace, a series of amazing buildings and gardens which combine the architecture of Spanish Renaissance with Moorish heritage.
Jerez is the sherry centre of the world and a visit to a “Bodega” will introduce you to a whole new experience of fine wines. During the month of May, the city is also transformed into the Spanish Grand Prix circuit.
Seville, the heart of Andalucia and the hole of flamenco boasts magnificent architecture and the largest “feria” in Spain.
Cordoba, a pleasant countryside drive away, was in the 10 th century one of the wealthiest cities in the world and the capital of Muslim Spain. This glory is reflected in the magnificent mosque, the “Mesquita”, a fantastic labyrinth of red, white and peppermint striped pillars rivalling the mosque of Mecca.
